Narrative

Ms. Kathleen Flores Ganley has been deeply involved in the Chicano/Latino community for the last 20 years. She has taught Spanish and ESL, developed numerous academic and community programs and classes, volunteered as a translator and interpreter, and has worked as a consultant to educators interested in integrating service-learning into their curricula. Kathleen's passion as an activist is evident in her continued commitment in pursuing peace and social justice issues. For the past 8 years Kathleen has taught a course she developed entitled, "Service-Learning in the Chicano/Latino Community" in the Spanish Department at the University of Minnesota. throughout this time, she has placed over 1000 students working with Chicanos and Latinos in the Twin Cities. In addition to their service, Kathleen has had the opportunity to work with them and the community in developing social action projects that address current issues faced by Chicanos/Latinos. Currently, Kathleen is teaching a service-learning course focusing on Chicano/Latino education in the Chicano Studies Department at the University of Minnesota as part of their new initiative EDUCATE. Kathleen has a M.Ed. in Education and a M.A. in Hispanic Linguistics with a minor in Second Language and Culture Education. She currently resides on the West Side with her bilingual/bicultural daughter.
