Narrative
After a decade of searching for the perfect job, I find myself in the position of Assistant Academic Adviser in the department. I work primarily with students pursuing majors and minors in Spanish or Portuguese, helping them stay on track for a timely graduation and figuring out what they can do once they leave the U of M. I also serve on a variety of committees to ensure that our students receive the best educational experience possible. The most satisfying aspect of my job is helping students study abroad. As a participant on the Toledo, Spain program in 1994, I never thought that I would one day be helping students realize their dreams of having an international experience. I’ve taught high-school Spanish, delivered mail for the USPS, coordinated 1500-page grants for a General Clinical Research Center, and matched medical students into residency programs for both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, but nothing has been more satisfying than seeing students discover their passion and work toward building a better community both around the Twin Cities and around the world. When I’m not at work, I enjoy traveling, reading, and outdoor activities. I also love the local music and arts scene.
