Narrative

I am currently doing research on hip-hop dance in the Caribbean and Brazilian nations and diaspora. My investigation focuses on the ways that particular movements (and movement tropes) express intersecting identities (racial, sexual, gender, etc.). My detailed analyses of choreographed and spontaneous hip-hop performances engage queer (diaspora) and subaltern studies and highlight the important linkages between popular culture and ruptures within discourses of national unity. I have recently advanced to candidacy and plan to defend my thesis in Spring, 2011.
